Everything is made up and the votes don’t matter.

It’s clear to me that Joe Biden is going to be sworn in on January 20th, 2021. What’s not clear is what happens to Donald Trump, because he doesn’t seem capable of stepping away from the spotlight. I suspect that well into July of 2021, we’ll be hearing from Trump. The rest of the GOP is going to be an interesting story, because I think they… need him.

There was this show called “Whose Line Is It Anyway” that was on during the late 90s, where “it was all made up and the points don’t matter” as host Drew Carey famously put it. It was an improv show posing as a game show, and that’s what made it fun. That’s what President Trump has done for the GOP: Made it into a show.

The election (which would have normally just been a vote counting process) has turned into a circus. Why? Because that’s Trump’s brand. It’s PT Barnum and the all singing, all dancing, all spectacular Fox News hosts. It’s Rudy sweating some strange brown liquid. It’s all weird. But that’s the point. They aren’t going to win in courts, so they choose to manipulate the media into giving them airtime.

What’s the net gain? Nothing. But it doesn’t have to be. Aside from the circus, the GOP offers their supporters little in the way of life-improving legislation. All they have left is spectacle and bluster. That’s why it won’t be over in January. Donald Trump is going to be a loud, contrarian voice in the GOP until the day he dies. If he’s alive, he’ll run again in 2024. His ego is too fragile to simply fade away.

It all comes down to vampire science. A vampire can’t simply walk into your home. You must invite a vampire in. The GOP invited a bloodsucking vampire into their home, and now we all get to live with the consequences.
